What equipment can utility and renewable project teams request?
Project teams can submit GSU, interconnection, substation, auxiliary, and pad-mounted transformer duties plus related generation and electrical-package requirements. A request should include the one-line, MVA/kVA, voltages, BIL, impedance, cooling, vector/grounding, taps, site, utility specification, tests, origin restrictions, and schedule.
Collector and inverter-based projects require explicit converter/harmonic and grounding information. Do not assume a generic 34.5 kV label makes a transformer suitable for a solar, wind, BESS, or data-center collector system.
Can a never-energized transformer from a canceled renewable project be reused?
Potentially. The new project team must verify serial identity, ratio, MVA, BIL, impedance, vector group, grounding, taps, collector and point-of-interconnection interfaces, protection assumptions, site conditions, physical arrangement, condition, preservation, records, transport, and owner or utility acceptance. Never-energized status does not by itself prove technical fit.
Have surplus or cancelled-project equipment from this type of job? Offer it to J&J.
Direct owners, owner-employed asset teams, and EPCs or developers with transfer authority may submit fully functional, project-canceled, stored, surplus, or utility-spare transformers and related electrical assets. J&J requests OEM/model/serial, rating, year, location, condition, photos, title/authority, current status, included accessories, loading scope, and records.
- Project-canceled new or unused-surplus transformers and spares.
- Operational spares or replaced utility/substation transformers.
- Wind, solar or storage pad-mounted and collector assets.
- Plant-closure, repower, or redesign equipment that remains complete and commercially transferable.
How are renewable project-canceled transformers screened?
A canceled-project unit is not automatically interchangeable. Compare ratio, MVA, BIL, impedance, vector/grounding, LTC/DETC, losses, harmonic duty, terminals, footprint, controls, test reports, storage, preservation, warranty transfer, title, location, shipping state, and the new project’s utility specification.
What logistics details affect a utility transformer transaction?
Large-transformer moves can require oil draining or preservation, bushing/radiator removal, heavy-haul or rail routing, permits, bridge/road review, cranes, rigging, loading responsibility, shock monitoring, port/tariff review, storage and post-move testing. The quote should state every boundary and Incoterm.
What evidence should accompany an offer?
A responsible offer identifies the exact serial/model or factory scope, owner/seller authority, condition, location, verified date, nameplate/rating sheet, drawings, tests, losses, fluid, dimensions/weights, included equipment, inspection rights, price, freight basis, warranty source, availability, exclusions and validity.
Availability is subject to prior sale, technical review, and written confirmation by J&J Transformers LLC.
Common questions
Written quotes and supporting records control unit-specific ratings, availability, condition, price, and delivery.
Can J&J source utility substation transformers?
Yes, after the utility specification, one-line, ratings, site, tests, origin restrictions and schedule are provided.
Are 34.5 kV transformers interchangeable between projects?
No. MVA, secondary voltage, BIL, impedance, vector/grounding, taps, harmonics, terminals, standards and physical fit can differ.
What should a utility or EPC include in an RFQ?
Provide the one-line, complete ratings, utility specification, site conditions, interfaces, required documents and tests, origin restrictions, delivery location, and needed-on-site date.
How should an emergency replacement transformer be compared?
Compare ratio, MVA, BIL, impedance and basis, vector and grounding, taps, cooling, losses, terminals, controls, footprint, accessories, condition, records, transport, and site acceptance requirements.
Which records matter for a surplus utility transformer?
Request serial-specific identity, final drawings, certified factory tests, maintenance and fluid history, current condition evidence, preservation and transport records, included scope, location, and seller authority.
What can delay a transformer that already exists?
Identity and title checks, technical deviations, inspection or testing, missing accessories, preservation, oil handling, dismantlement, route and permits, site readiness, commercial approval, and utility acceptance can still control the schedule.
Can renewable developers submit project-canceled transformers?
Yes. Direct owners and renewable developers with transfer authority should provide authority, serial-specific ratings, documents, condition, storage history, location, included scope, and commercial expectations.
