Which 120 kV transformer matches the project?
For a 120 kV incoming supply and a 24.9 kV plant bus, start with the WEG record and confirm its Dyn1 phase relationship, high-side OLTC, protection and physical interfaces. For a 13.8 kV generator exporting to a 120 kV system, review the Prolec GE GSU's dual-voltage winding configuration and the required reconnection arrangement. Proposed reverse-power or step-down use needs a separate unit-specific engineering review.
| Equipment record | Full primary rating | Winding and tap information |
|---|---|---|
| WEG · JJ-WEG-120-167 | 100/133.333/166.667 MVA; KNAN/KNAF/KNAF | 120 kV delta / 24.9 kV grounded wye; Dyn1; high-side OLTC |
| Prolec GE · JJ-PGE-240-71 | 42.7/57/71.2 MVA at 60 Hz; ONAN/ONAF/ONAF | 240 or 120 kV grounded-wye high side / 13.8 kV delta; DETC; clock to confirm |
The first MVA value is a cooling-stage rating, not the highest forced-cooled stage. Neither table row is approval for a particular project or a complete substation package.
120 kV is not a substitute label for 115 kV
Keep the actual 120 kV nameplate voltage in the inquiry and quotation. A nearby 115 kV system requirement does not establish compatibility: the project team must review tap range, applied volts per hertz, insulation, grounding, protection and utility acceptance. A dual 240/120 kV winding is not a 240/120 kV autotransformer or two independent high-voltage outputs.
Request the records for the selected unit
The WEG record identifies a reviewed nameplate and 2015 manufacture. The Prolec GE record identifies nameplate and drawing evidence; its 2012 drawing approval is not a claimed manufacturing date. Request matching drawings, available test records, condition and preservation information, accessory scope, inspection terms and the quoted warranty. Equipment record-review dates remain distinct from a fresh availability confirmation.
Request a 120 kV transformer quote
Contact Tommy Marco at 346-276-9540 or tommy@jjtransformers.com with the required MVA, source/output voltages, duty, quantity and site-arrival date. Identify whether 120 kV is the source winding or grid export, the required lower-voltage winding, base and forced-cooled load, accepted condition and the existing nameplate or specification. The written quotation confirms the selected equipment, allocation, inspection, included accessories, warranty and shipment or site-delivery milestone.
- Prepare a transformer specification and price request
- Purchase, inspection, warranty and delivery scope
A transformer listing does not include switchgear, breakers, protection, civil works, installation or commissioning unless the quotation expressly includes them.
Common questions
Written quotes and supporting records control unit-specific ratings, availability, condition, price, and delivery.
Where can I buy a 120 kV power transformer?
J&J Transformers LLC publishes WEG 120/24.9 kV and Prolec GE dual 240/120 to 13.8 kV equipment records. Compare the actual MVA, winding configuration and proposed duty, then contact Tommy for current written availability, price and delivery. Subject to prior sale.
Is the WEG transformer 100 MVA or 166.667 MVA?
Its reviewed nameplate states 100/133.333/166.667 MVA with KNAN/KNAF/KNAF cooling. Use the full rating schedule and available cooling equipment rather than treating 166.667 MVA as the base rating.
Can the Prolec GE GSU be used as a 120/13.8 kV step-down transformer?
The published record identifies generator step-up duty. A dual high-side voltage does not itself approve reverse-power use. Obtain unit-specific confirmation of directional rating, grounding, taps, insulation, protection and project suitability before treating it as a step-down purchase.
