Keep MW, MWh and discharge duration separate
MW measures power; MWh measures energy. For a simple comparison on the same usable-energy and power basis, duration in hours equals MWh divided by MW. A proposed 100 MWh usable AC system delivering 25 MW has a four-hour arithmetic duration; that example is not a specification or performance guarantee for an offered container.
State the measurement boundary and whether the energy is nominal DC, usable DC or usable AC. Record the required operating conditions and performance period. Do not calculate a guaranteed AC duration directly from a nominal battery-container label.
Ask what connects the battery blocks to the project
A useful BESS quotation lists the battery containers and PCS separately, then identifies controls, electrical interfaces and the remaining project scope. Match the proposed configuration to the required AC power and energy with the responsible system integrator.
| Scope item | Request in the offer |
|---|---|
| Battery containers | Quantity, model, nominal/usable energy, DC operating range, condition and available records. |
| PCS | Quantity, continuous AC power, DC compatibility, AC voltage/frequency and included controls. |
| Controls and interfaces | BMS/EMS responsibilities, communications, protection and system-integration boundaries. |
| Electrical collection | Transformers, switchgear, cables and connection equipment included or excluded. |
| Acceptance and delivery | Applicable test/certification evidence, warranty, performance terms, freight and commissioning responsibilities. |
Read the J&J 5.6 MWh offer as DC battery-block supply
The published offer comprises 150 liquid-cooled 5.6 MWh LFP battery containers, totaling 840 MWh of nominal energy across the offered lot. PCS skids are quoted separately. These figures do not establish 840 MW of power or a complete installed AC plant.
Ask J&J for the current available quantity, offered condition, technical package, PCS proposal and delivery terms. Identify the portion of the lot required for your project and the AC power and duration you want the proposed system to support. Current allocation and included scope require written confirmation.
Prepare the battery storage supplier inquiry
Send required AC MW, usable MWh, discharge duration, duty, site voltage/frequency, quantity or delivery phases and needed-on-site date. State whether you need DC battery blocks, PCS, a coordinated electrical package or a wider integrated project scope.
Include the controlling specification, environmental requirements, acceptance documents and warranty/performance expectations. Keep equipment availability and shipment milestones separate from installation, commissioning and interconnection approval.
Common questions
Written quotes and supporting records control unit-specific ratings, availability, condition, price, and delivery.
Does a 5.6 MWh container have a 5.6 MW output?
MWh is energy and MW is power. The AC power depends on the compatible PCS and system design; usable duration also depends on the stated energy and operating basis. Request both ratings and the package scope.
Are PCS skids included with the published BESS containers?
The current J&J listing identifies PCS skids as separately quoted equipment. Ask for an itemized proposal showing the battery blocks, PCS and any other included electrical or control equipment.
