Match the rating to the operating duty
Ask for the manufacturer's duty rating for the exact generator configuration. A standby kW figure is not automatically the same as its prime or continuous rating. Compare the intended operating hours, load profile and site conditions against the offered specification.
Caterpillar's published generator information distinguishes standby and prime ratings. Use the actual model's current specification when reviewing a candidate; do not apply the rating or capabilities of another generator simply because it uses the same engine family.
What to send for a diesel generator quote
Define the equipment and delivery requirement before comparing offers. A complete request reduces mismatches between the generator, transfer equipment and the loads it will serve.

Review the offered unit's records
Before purchasing used or surplus equipment, request nameplates, build year, hours, maintenance history, preservation records, test information and a defined inspection opportunity. Verify that the documents identify the engine, alternator and assembled package being offered.
Ask what the test demonstrates, when it occurred and which accessories were connected. Separate a seller's description from inspection findings. Warranty provider, start date, exclusions, commissioning obligations and service requirements belong in the written offer.
Separate generator supply from installation scope
Identify the supply boundary for fuel equipment, exhaust, cooling, transfer equipment, switchgear, transformer, cabling and commissioning. A packaged generator offer does not by itself confirm a complete installed power system.
