Transformers and Surplus Equipment for Utility and Renewable Projects

J&J Transformers LLC sells, sources, and reviews transformer and related power-equipment opportunities for utilities, cooperatives, EPCs, renewable developers, IPPs, and asset owners. Requests may include new, unused-surplus, used, failed, decommissioned, project-canceled, or scrap units; technical fit, ownership authority, condition, documents, availability, and logistics are verified per opportunity.

What equipment can utility and renewable buyers request?

Buyers can submit GSU, interconnection, substation, auxiliary, and pad-mounted transformer duties plus related generation and electrical-package requirements. A request should include the one-line, MVA/kVA, voltages, BIL, impedance, cooling, vector/grounding, taps, site, utility specification, tests, origin restrictions, and schedule.

Collector and inverter-based projects require explicit converter/harmonic and grounding information. Do not assume a generic 34.5 kV label makes a transformer suitable for a solar, wind, BESS, or data-center collector system.

What surplus or decommissioned assets can owners submit?

Owners and authorized representatives may submit fully functional, failed, decommissioned, project-canceled, stored, surplus, or scrap transformers and related electrical assets. J&J requests OEM/model/serial, rating, year, location, condition, photos, title/authority, current status, included accessories, loading/dismantlement scope, and records.

  • Project-canceled new or unused-surplus transformers and spares.
  • Operational spares or replaced utility/substation transformers.
  • Wind, solar or storage pad-mounted and collector assets.
  • Failed units with repair, salvage or scrap value.
  • Plant closure, repower or decommissioning electrical equipment.

How are renewable project-canceled transformers screened?

A canceled-project unit is not automatically interchangeable. Compare ratio, MVA, BIL, impedance, vector/grounding, LTC/DETC, losses, harmonic duty, terminals, footprint, controls, test reports, storage, preservation, warranty transfer, title, location, shipping state, and the new project’s utility specification.

What logistics details affect a utility transformer transaction?

Large-transformer moves can require oil draining or preservation, bushing/radiator removal, heavy-haul or rail routing, permits, bridge/road review, cranes, rigging, loading responsibility, shock monitoring, port/tariff review, storage and post-move testing. The quote should state every boundary and Incoterm.

What evidence should accompany an offer?

A responsible offer identifies the exact serial/model or factory scope, owner/seller authority, condition, location, verified date, nameplate/rating sheet, drawings, tests, losses, fluid, dimensions/weights, included equipment, inspection rights, price, freight basis, warranty source, availability, exclusions and validity.

Availability is subject to prior sale, technical review, and written confirmation by J&J Transformers LLC.

Frequently asked questions

These answers explain the procurement and application questions buyers ask most often. Unit-specific ratings, availability, conformity, condition, price, and delivery are controlled by the written quotation and supporting documents.

Does J&J buy failed transformers?

J&J accepts failed-unit submissions for review; an offer depends on identity, rating, condition, location, ownership, handling and recoverable value.

Can renewable developers sell project-canceled transformers?

Yes, with owner/authority confirmation, serial-specific ratings, documents, condition, storage, location and commercial expectations.

Can J&J source utility substation transformers?

Yes, after the utility specification, one-line, ratings, site, tests, origin restrictions and schedule are provided.

Are 34.5 kV transformers interchangeable between projects?

No. MVA, secondary voltage, BIL, impedance, vector/grounding, taps, harmonics, terminals, standards and physical fit can differ.

Can J&J arrange nationwide pickup?

Logistics can be evaluated, but pickup, loading, dismantlement, oil, permits, freight and cost must be confirmed per asset.

What photos should a seller provide?

Full unit, nameplate, all sides, bushings/terminals, controls, coolers, leaks/corrosion, loose accessories, storage and access/loading area.

What records increase transformer value?

Certified tests, drawings, maintenance, DGA/moisture, condition tests, preservation, transport history, warranty and complete accessory lists.

Does J&J guarantee the best price?

No blanket price claim is made. Value depends on technical fit, condition, evidence, location, market demand, logistics and transaction terms.
